Long Legs Review

I saw the film Long Legs on opening weekend and had a great time. It was a “Silence of the Lambs” spiritual successor. A lot of the characters and ideas were reimagining of the cult classic movie. Some of my favorite aspects of long legs were definitely from the visuals and performances. The 3:4 aspect ratio of the flashback scenes, warping into the presents full-screen, was beyond clever. There are a lot of great shots framing Lee right in front of whatever her intuitions are. Nicolas Cage’s performance as Long Legs was a delight as much as it was unnerving. While I wouldn’t call this a scary movie, its fun factor is the main driver of the film. One last thing I would like to mention is I loved the journey of piecing together the plot and mystery as the viewer. The only thing that stinks is that the build up doesn’t have a satisfying release. You as the viewer feel accomplished for figuring out why the plot movies the way it does, just for the climax to expo dump the whole story to you at the end. It’s a minor gripe to an almost perfect thriller with a lot of style.
